Barston Q2

Eliminator - 29/04/2016

Barston is one of those incredibly prolific carp / match venues that, in the right conditions and on the right day, can produce massive weights. Indeed it is one of only 4 venues in the country to be in the 1000lb club during an official competition; the others being the famous Drayton Reservoir, Thorpe Lea, and Elphicks North Lake. For this qualifier we split the lake into 3 sections of 10 anglers with the top three weights in each section proceeding to the final.
2014 Midlands Qualifier saw Steve Blow and Rob Burgess nearly break the carp match record on here. They were 60lb odd short. Wonder if anyone can do it this year.
Anglers are allowed to use the golf clubhouse which means we have some of the best catering facilities located at a fishery in the country. There is a bar open from 7am, food available at all times to eat in or takeaway, and toilets and showers available. Please bear in mind other users of the clubhouse and we respectfully ask you to remove any outerwear which may have been in contact with fish before going into the clubhouse. Also if any weddings on please keep out of he function room.
As you will all know now this final will be scored by the Best 5 fish caught for each pair in the 48 hours. This cuts out any peginess on the lake and gives everyone a fair chance.

Pre Match Report

This year we have a full house of 30 pairs on this famous West Midlands venue. It is always popular amongst carp match anglers as the chance of huge weights is a possibility. This event is a Midlands triple qualifier with the lake being split in to three sections of ten. Qualification will be achieved by finishing in the top 3 of each section. The facilities at Barston are second to none, which is why this venue is an ever present on our carp match calendar. The event will commence at 9am Friday and run through till 9am Sunday. We will be doing 3 hourly weigh ins between 6am and 12am with regular updates and photos being posted in Facebook and our website. So if you want to know whats happening during the weekend you know where to look.

Post Match Report

After our first three events of the year and no cast offs, I thought we were safe as it had never been known to have one at Barston, and I certainly didnt expect one at this event. It just shows you how wrong you can be. This section fished extremely slowly. A fish was landed on Friday night but due to a mix up and dispute between two pairs of anglers in adjoining pegs, it had to be disallowed. It then took until noon Saturday when Paul Branfield and David Martin landed a mirror of 13lb 4oz to put them first on the scoreboard. There was no more fish until the first weigh in Sunday morning at 6am when Welsey Prestage and Tim Hickinbottom banked an 11lb 4oz common. This is how the section stayed until the final hooter. We had to have a cast off to determine the third qualifying place. This was won by the reigning Northern Carp Cup champions for the last two years, Darren Wilcox and Jason Trought.
