Pre Match Report

First time out for this new venue in our Southern Carp Cup competition. Its a pity only 4 pairs signed up for the event and you have to feel sorry for whoever finishes fourth and misses out on qualifying for the final.

Post Match Report

The first hour produced a fish each for Bobby and Jamie along with Jack and Joey. They then had another quick fish apiece which left a gap of 5oz between them. Jamie then quickly banked a lovely third fish of 26lb 12oz, which turned out to be the biggest fish of the event and put them back in the lead. A third pair, Brad and Tom, came onto the score board next with a 14lb+. Late afternoon Friday saw the sky become overcast producing light rain with a distinct drop in the temperature. This weather front put paid to the bites for a while.

By dusk, it was looking like the pairs to beat were in pegs 4 and 6 and this continued into Saturday with both pairs catching steadily. By mid afternoon peg 4 were in the lead with eight fish for 129lb 8oz. Peg 6 had nine fish for 129lb 5oz putting them in second place by a mere 3oz. This pattern continued through Saturday night and into Sunday morning. By 8am with only 4 hours of the match remaining, Jack and Joey in peg 6 had amassed a catch of 16 fish for a total weight of 220lb 14oz. At this point Bobby and Jamie, peg 4, were way back with 10 fish for 155lb.

With only 20 minutes remaining till the final hooter, Bobby and Jamie caught 2 fish weighing 24lb 2oz and 21lb 2oz leaving them just 20lb 10oz adrift of top spot. But even though they tried their hardest they could not top the boys from peg 6. Brad and Tom in peg 3 had now caught 8 fish to out them firmly in the third qualifying space and we were very pleased that Richard and Steve Collins, although finishing in fourth, eventually managed to catch a fish and get onto the scoreboard, saving a blank. This is a cracking venue with good facilities and some of the best looking fish it has been my pleasure to weigh and photograph anywhere in the UK. Bearing this in mind I\\\’m sure we will be back here in the future.
